MILAWA supports the immigrant refugee community in Milwaukee; In addition, every year, MILAWA
celebrates and raises funds to support humanitarian causes in Africa. This year, for our 12th
annual fundraising gala celebration, our theme is “Empowering the Girl Child”. Our
recipient will be the Asmaa James Foundation, located in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Asmaa James
Foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of girls from marginalized backgrounds by giving them
access to reproductive health education, scholarships, mentoring and life skills training. Our goal this
year is to raise $50,000 to support both the Asmaa James Foundation (in providing the opportunity for girls
to grow up, free from sexual assault, rape, child labor, child trafficking, forced marriage and many
dangerous activities that these girls are subjected to) and our local effort. We invite you to join us to
